A quick word about our group fitness classes - we are a Pilates-based, cross-training fitness studio. Long-term studies show you need variety in your workout to prevent injury, see weight loss, increase strength, endurance and muscle definition. All programs and classes are designed by owner and Fitness Director, Debra Tourek and under the guidance of Energy’s own Medical Director, Dr. Julie England.
If you want to get technical with us, we follow the American College of Sports Medicine for fitness guidelines. This is why we offer a myriad of formats, so you will never be bored and will always be challenged. Energy strives for healthful fitness and research-based exercise – not fads that fade.
Energy group fitness classes, small group training and personal training are all designed for you to progress to full-body strength and definition, core awareness, functional training, flexibility training, and cardio strength, all using the non-linear periodization model.
Why you need Pilates.
FACT
SOME BENEFITS INCLUDE:
The benefits from Pilates will take you to the next level, as it consistently improves body condition, function and performance.
- Pilates hits your core (or, in Pilates speak, your "powerhouse") unlike any other workout.
- Pilates targets the core muscle groups that are neglected in usual strength training. It trains your deep core muscles, which in turn supports the other muscles in your body for more efficient performance. By combining Pilates into your workout, you are able to reach new levels of fitness.
- After completing 36 weeks' of Pilates training, the rectus abdominis (the muscle responsible for six-packs) increased strength by an average of 21 percent, while eliminating muscle imbalances between the right and left sides of their cores, according to a study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise.
- Incorporating Pilates into you workouts also helps reduce the risk of overuse injuries, improves muscular balance, trains your muscle in new and unique ways and aids in muscle recovery.
SOME BENEFITS INCLUDE:
- Stronger core muscles: athletes in every sport can benefit from Pilates. Including it in their cross training gives them added core strength. Working from the core, Pilates helps to build a solid platform of inner strength. The strong center serves as a stable foundation, which in turn supports the other working muscles.
- More efficient body movements: Pilates improve muscular endurance and flexibility, as well as the mind-body connection.
- Pain and Injury: Especially when using the Pilates Reformer, Pilates is an ideal form of cross-training even for those with injuries, limitations or chronic pain. The Reformer has a system of pulleys, which provides resistance as the muscles contract without putting added stress on the joints, ligaments and tendons.

So try adding yoga to your training routine consistently for improved body condition, function and performance.

You need cardio.
If you haven’t gotten enough aerobic "cardio" exercise, you may use your entire aerobic capacity while walking up a flight of stairs. You'll realize this when you get to the top and feel out of breath. Cardio exercise and activities can also:
No matter what your age, cardio exercise will help you in your daily activities and increase your stamina and endurance.
- Strengthen your heart and muscles
- Burn calories
- Help control your appetite
- Boost your mood through the release of endorphins, which are feel-good chemicals released by your brain
- Help you sleep better at night
- Reduce arthritis pain and stiffness through joint movement
- Help prevent or manage high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.
No matter what your age, cardio exercise will help you in your daily activities and increase your stamina and endurance.
Benefits of Weight Training.
Proven to reduce body fat, increase lean muscle mass and burn calories more efficiently; this is what happens when you cross train with sculpt and strength. Strength training is a key component of overall health and fitness for everyone. It's "use it or lose it" research as lean muscle mass naturally diminishes with age.
Strength training may also help you:
So try adding sculpt/weight training classes to your training routine consistently for improved body condition, function and performance.
Strength training may also help you:
- Develop strong bones. By stressing your bones, strength training can increase bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
- Manage your weight, as your body burns more calories.
- Enhance your quality of life. Strength training may enhance your quality of life and improve your ability to do everyday activities. Building muscle also can contribute to better balance and may reduce your risk of falls. This can help you maintain independence as you age.
So try adding sculpt/weight training classes to your training routine consistently for improved body condition, function and performance.
and .... Why Barre is Amazing!
Energy was the first studio in Minnesota to bring the popular "barre" workout midwest!
So, try adding some barre classes to your training routine consistently for improved body condition, function and performance.
- It's a workout for everyone: No matter your fitness level, you can attend a barre class and get something out of it. Barre workouts are low-impact and easy to adjust to any fitness level.
- Muscle burn: you may be making small, targeted movements, but trust that you will feel those movements working in the form of a good healthy burn. With the specific body movements in a barre class, you’ll achieve a deep muscle burn without pain in the areas of the body that are prone to injury.
- Your bum!: These isometric movements also isolate specific muscles while you hold a posture, so each group gets attention, creating and maintaining muscle strength without tearing the muscle like you would in a high-impact workout.
So, try adding some barre classes to your training routine consistently for improved body condition, function and performance.
