MEET MIKAYLA.
Mikayla started doing yoga in the middle of her gymnastics career as a way to work on her flexibility and balance. She quickly found a passion for yoga, and did yoga alongside gymnastics for the next couple of years. Along with being a competitive gymnast, Mikayla also coached gymnastics and enjoyed the concept of teaching a form of physical movement to others. With this said, she always had the idea of becoming an instructor in the back of her head. After retiring from 15 years of gymnastics Mikayla enrolled in yoga teacher training and from there became an instructor.
Although she is no longer competing, Mikayla stays up to date in the gymnastics world and practices for fun on occasion. When teaching a yoga class Mikayla likes to incorporate her knowledge about proper form and alignment from gymnastics into the flow. Conversely, she likes taking principles from yoga such as balance and breathing and applying them to her gymnastics coaching.
Mikayla is currently a student at the University of Kansas, majoring in Human Biology and on the track to become a Physician’s Assistant. She dreams of working in sports medicine with professional athletes, along with incorporating yoga and wellness into her medical practice. Mikayla also teaches yoga at the University of Kansas.
In her free time, Mikayla enjoys being outdoors and active, along with traveling and spending time with friends and family. Jetskiing and hiking are some of her favorite outdoor activities. She is also a frequent runner, and runs half-marathons with her mom. Mikayla also loves to bake, and her favorite thing to bake is chocolate chip banana bread. She is an avid music listener, reader, and podcast listener.
